Stop Smoking Cessation Program

Consider this to be a major opportunity to let go of any attitudes or habitual emotional patterns that may stifle your ambitions or your sense of self
Quitting smoking is a process. Acupuncture and herbs can be of tremendous assistance in discontinuing smoking, but proper preparation is vital to support you through this major life transition. Talk with others who have quit and find out what little things they may have done to stay on a positive trend. It takes time to move through these changes, and it is important to consistently reaffirm your resolve to stop smoking.
Emotions play a very large part in the smoking cessation process. Many smokers acknowledge that smoking acts as a repressor of unpleasant emotions. This effect can be so great that often, when an individual quits smoking, they find themselves face-to-face with some very old unpleasant feelings. This is a temporary situation, as typically the oldest feelings are irritability and anger which are also some of the first emotions to surface. Some people may even experience sadness as they let go of the old friend they had in cigarettes. As you begin your journey to quit smoking, ask for understanding, support, and perhaps a little room to make some emotional mistakes from those you are most intimate with. Emotional expression is healthy and plays a vital role in smoking cessation. Do not underestimate it.
Some people will take up a new habit to repress their feelings. The most common are eating candy or just eating more, especially since we must eat and because food usually tastes better to those who have discontinued smoking. Make healthy choices. Increase your exercise routines because it will help you to cleanse your body and it will help you restore your normal energy patterns, as well as promoting a healthy metabolic system. Heavier breathing may cause some discomfort which may only be you r lungs trying to let go of caked-on residue. If your health is in question, seek professional assistance in developing an appropriate exercise plan.
It is critical that you get rid of all your smoking paraphernalia. Any cigarettes tucked away in a closet or glove compartment serves as a trap for you to later stumble into. Seeing your ashtrays or lighters might generate a nostalgic longing that your mind might use to pit against your determination to stop smoking. Resolve to ask other smokers to step outside your home in order to keep you away from cigarettes. After your acupuncture treatment, it is important for you to affirm that you are a non-smoker.
Many who falter through this process find themselves doing so exceptionally well that they truyly believe they can have on or two cigarettes occasionally and remain a non-smoker. It doesn't work. If you find yourself wavering or struggling through the process, get yourself back in for a follow-up treatment. GOOD LUCK!
ACUPUNCTURE FOR SMOKING CESSATION
Acupuncture has been successfully used as a treatment for the cessation of smoking and other addictive habits. A very effective treatment, developed by Dr. Michael Smith at the Lincoln Center hospital in the Bronx, New York, uses a combination of acupuncture points in the ear, as well as one point on each hand and foot.
The combination of points causes a brain signal that orders the release of the neurotransmitter Dopamine from the nerve endings. When Dopamine finds its "Y"-shaped receptor sites, emotions are stabilized, allowing the body to relax. In smokers, nicotine occupies these same receptor sites and the brain senses that there is no reason to order the release of dopamine. While smoking, the receptor sites are occupied and relative emotional stability is achieved. When person ceases smoking, the "Y"-shaped receptor sites are starved for nicotine; the brain may take up to 2-3 weeks before the signal to release dopamine becomes routinely established. It is during this period that the person experiences withdraw. Ear acupuncture gives a jump start to this signal.
Smoking cessation acupuncture uses 4 points in each ear, and one in each hand and foot for a 40 minute relaxation period. 3 tiny acupuncture ear tacks are taped onto points of one ear immediately following the treatment, to be left in place anywhere from a few days to a week. This point stimulation acts to reinforce the original treatment and ensure the release of dopamine.
For centuries, Chinese acupuncture practitioners have used an herbal formula to assist in the facilitation of normal body functions (i.e. sleep, emotions, digestion) during the period of transition. We have this formula in tablet form, and in some cases alcohol extract tinctures. The tablets are made of pressed particles of prepared herbs and should be taken 2 to 3 times a day between meals with hot water (not tea or coffee). Optimal results can be obtained by chewing the tablets.
